RFP for Competitive Advantage Award

The Science Foundation Arizona (SFAz) Competitive Advantage Awards (CAA) will be offered to support outstanding Arizona researchers in three strategic areas: Sustainable Systems (SUS), Information Communication Technologies (ICT) , and Biosciences (BIO). The purpose of the CAA program is to identify research proposals that have the greatest potential to secure significant federal grants following an SFAz CAA award. The 2008 CAA competition will focus on those exceptionally meritorious proposals that were recognized as such in an expert, extramural federal review but were not funded due to lack of funds in the relevant federal agency. The purpose of the initial CAA is to provide “gap” funding for proposals deemed most competitive for federal dollars.

In the 2008 competition, SFAz will provide up to $500,000 for proposals deemed to have the highest merit from qualifying Research Performing Institutions.  In addition to the traditional CAA grants, a limited number of CAA New Opportunity Awards that focus on promising early research will be funded in 2008.
