Director of the Arizona STEM Network

Science Foundation Arizona (SFAz) is currently recruiting a Director of the Arizona STEM Network.  SFAz’s Arizona STEM Network, is a statewide collaboration of businesses, educators, philanthropy and government with a common agenda to graduate more students ready to succeed in the global marketplace.  Under the direct supervision of the President/CEO, The Director will lead the Arizona STEM Network and be fully responsible for developing and executing this activity in Arizona, through a statewide focus.  Work closely with AZ STEM Network Council on policies, plans and programs and manage the financial obligations of the Network and managing an efficient and high quality staff as applicable.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES & MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Demonstrated ability to plan and execute large scale projects
  • Knowledge of Collective Impact model
  • Excellent organization and communication skills and ability to inspire a commitment to excellence
  • Demonstrated success in executive level management, public outreach, communications and the ability  to lead and train others
  • Strong organizational skills with impeccable attention to detail
  • Previous experience managing people and teams
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of regulations and procedures related to assigned areas of responsibility
  • Knowledge of budget preparation, execution, and forecasting
  • Strong analytical skills including the ability to analyze data and make decisions
  • Position may require the ability to travel both by automobile & airplane.  Should the position require use of a personal automobile in order to attend business functions, the incumbent will be required to have a valid Arizona Driver’s License and submit proof of automobile insurance

Bachelor’s degree with a preference for an advanced degree in related fields including engineering and public policy (establishing and execution of policy matters is preferred); understanding the challenges and opportunities in K-12 Education; and at least ten years of progressively responsible management experience in academia, industry or government, OR an equivalent combination of training and/or education approved by management

Community College Field Service Representative

Science Foundation Arizona (SFAz) is currently recruiting for a part-time Community College Field Service Representative to assist Hispanic-serving community colleges (HSCC) in Arizona and across the country improve their student recruitment and retention efforts by addressing cultural barriers and gaps in STEM Pathway programming and securing external funding and resources to fill these gaps.  SFAz has a grant from National Science Foundation (NSF) to expand its Technical Assistance Team and provide HSCCs with intensive technical assistance to develop and prioritize their STEM pathway strategies and ready themselves to submit competitive STEM-based proposals to federal funding agencies.  Under the direct supervision of the STEM Pathways Manager, the Field Service Representative’s (FSR) primary role is to assist HSCCs through a process of self-evaluation of their STEM Pathways initiatives and to target and prioritize their STEM interests or needs.  SFAz has made available a STEM Pathways Guide to aid in this process (http://stem.sfaz.org/general/custom.asp?page=stempathways).  FSRs must have experience working with Hispanic populations in educational institutions, preferably Hispanic Serving community colleges, plus the experience and expertise to effectively accomplish the goals established.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  1. Experience working with Hispanic populations in educational institutions, preferably Hispanic Serving community colleges;
  2. Understanding of and experience with community college-led STEM Pathways programs.  SFAz has made available a STEM Pathways Guide to aid in this process http://stem.sfaz.org/general/custom.asp?page=stempathways
  3. Demonstrated ability to network across communities, education and business sectors;
  4. Demonstrated success with program development and implementation, leading to certifications, jobs and/or university degree programs;
  5. Effective leadership & communication skills;
  6. Ability to work well independently and/or as part of a team;
  7. Excellent organizational, communication, writing, presentation and speaking skills;
  8. Experience designing, implementation and/or managing community college programs;
  9. Knowledge of funding sources and managing community college budgets;
  10. Strong attention to detail and follow-through;
  11. Excellent knowledge of technology and data;
  12. Knowledge of regulations, policies and procedures related to assigned areas of responsibility;
  13. Ability to travel outside the State of Arizona by airplane.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Ph.D. or Master’s Degree preferred; Bachelor’s Degree required in a relevant field, at least 10 years of experience working in post-secondary education, preferably with community colleges, especially Hispanic serving community colleges, and in an administrative role.  Knowledge geared towards competency-based STEM strategies, and knowledge of community college finances is desired.  Some travel is required.  Incumbent will be required to have a valid Driver’s License and submit proof of automobile insurance.

Multimedia Assistant

Paid Project Work/Student Internship Position

Science Foundation Arizona (SFAz) is recruiting a part-time Multimedia Assistant to assist SFAz’s Web & Technology Manager with a variety of activities such as online communications, marketing and social media presence.  Responsibilities include maintaining and updating databases as required; assisting in planning, writing and managing e-blasts and e-newsletters; design flyers, graphics, e-vites and other marketing material; and will assist with the filming and photography of SFAz events.  This is a 3-6 month project duration. Successful candidate will have knowledge and experience in Social Media and Internet Marketing including the understanding of the basic principles of Communications and/or Marketing.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Working toward a degree (junior level and up; Associates or Bachelor’s Degree preferred) in a related field (e.g., English, Marketing, Communications, Advertising, Multimedia or Public Relations); Prior experience in related field highly desirable; excellent written and oral communication skills; Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop highly desired; Knowledge of HTML, website content management and graphic design a plus OR an equivalent combination of training and/or education.
