
Gary B. Greenburg, Ph.D.
Vice President for Research
Prior to joining Science Foundation Arizona, Dr. Greenburg served as faculty member at the University of Arizona School of Medicine, where he studied development and regeneration of the vertebrate pancreas, and was an adjunct faculty member at Pima Community College.
Dr. Greenburg received his Bachelor of Arts in Biology from the University of California, San Diego, his Ph.D. in Cell and Developmental Biology from Harvard University, and was a Life Sciences Research Foundation Fellow with Nobel Laureate Günter Blobel at Rockefeller University in New York. Dr. Greenburg is internationally known for his pioneering work in epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and has over 40 publications in cell and molecular biology and 5 issued patents.
In addition, Dr. Greenburg has spent 12 years in biotechnology, most recently as Vice President of Research at Reconstructive Technologies, Inc., a San Francisco Bay Area startup company devoted to developing technologies to grow human skin for grafting to severe burns and skin deformities. He has been previously employed as Director of Gene Therapy at Cell Genesys (CEGE) where he led pre-clinical efforts in cell and gene therapy and adoptive immunotherapy.
