Independent Audit Committee

The Science Foundation Arizona Independent Audit Committee is comprised of a group of highly respected and dedicated accounting and business professionals. 

These individuals include:

Mary Jane Rynd
Science Foundation Arizona Audit Committee (Chair)

Mary Jane Rynd is the executive vice president and CFO of the Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust, where she is responsible for all financial and human resource-related aspects of the Trust.  She is a certified public accountant and a former partner in KPMG LLC and Rynd, Carneal & Ewing, PLC.  Before joining the Trust, she served on the boards of numerous nonprofit organizations.

Ms Rynd currently serves as Treasurer of the Conference of Southwest Foundations and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Arizona Society of Certified Public Accountants.  She is a graduate of the University of St. Thomas in Houston and holds a Master of Public Accounting from the University of Texas at Austin.

Bruce Nordstrom
Science Foundation Arizona Audit Committee Member

Bruce Nordstrom received his BSBA in Accounting from the University of North Dakota in 1971.  That same year, he joined Peat, Marwick, Mitchell and Co., CPA’s.  In 1975, he formed Thompson and Nordstrom, CPA’s in Flagstaff and by 1988 he emerged to head Nordstrom and Associates, CPA’s.  Mr. Nordstrom was awarded the Arizona Society of CPA’s Public Service Award in 1998 and received the Arizona Society of CPA’s Life Member Award for service to the profession.

Mr. Nordstrom has numerous professional and civic affiliations and during his career has been a member of the Council of the American Institute of CPA’s and directed the Greater Flagstaff Economic Council and the Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce.  Currently, he serves as director of the Pinnacle West Capital Corporation.  He also stays active as director of the University Medical Center in Tucson, the Arizona CPA Foundation for Education and Research and the Arizona Public Service Company.

Gary Jones
Science Foundation Arizona Audit Committee Member

 

Gary Jones is serving as Chairman of the Board of ArkeX and Ingrain companies.  Both organizations are startup geophysical/geological technology companies offering services to oil and gas companies.  Formerly, Mr. Jones served as President of Schlumberger's WesternGeco Division and President of Baker Hughes Atlas Division.  He has a life long interest in energy, particularly focused on solar energy, desalinization and geothermal energy. 

Frank McCabe
Science Foundation Arizona Audit Committee Member


Frank McCabe's early career was with ASEA in Sweden where he was responsible for the start up General Electric Semiconductor in Dundalk, Co Louth, Ireland.   He was subsequently appointed Managing Director of General Electric European Semiconductor and Consumer Electronics Business based in Ireland.

He later joined Intel in 1994 as Vice President of Technology and Manufacturing, based in Ireland.  In his concurrent role as General Manager, Intel Ireland employment grew to over 4,000 employees.  He retired from Intel and currently devotes his time to corporate and nonprofit boards.

Mr. McCabe received his BE in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering from the University College Dublin and his Master degree from Clarkson University in New York.
